Carnot Engines explores U.S. manufacturing expansion at SelectUSA, advancing next-generation power systems

Carnot Engines, a UK-based developer of next-generation high-efficiency engines, is visiting the SelectUSA Investment Summit, exploring potential locations for its first U.S. manufacturing facility.

The visit marks a significant step in Carnot’s international growth strategy, as the company evaluates sites across the Midwest and Southern United States to support rising demand for advanced power generation technologies.

Supporting America’s energy strength and industrial base

Carnot’s expansion plans come at a time of accelerating demand for reliable, flexible, and cost-effective power across the United States. From data centres and industrial facilities to defense and transport applications, U.S. customers are seeking solutions that can reduce power costs, increase flexibility and enhance energy resilience and security.

Carnot’s technology is designed to address these challenges directly. By increasing the efficiency of conventional engines whilst operating on a wide range of fuels, including diesel, natural gas, and emerging alternatives, a Carnot Engine enables customers to lower operating costs while strengthening energy flexibility.

For the first phase of Carnot’s expansion, they aim to invest about $20m, hire a team of 250 and hit a production capacity of at least 25,000 engines a year within 5 years.

Meeting growing demand across key sectors

Carnot has already identified significant interest from U.S. customers across multiple applications, including:

    • Power generation and data centres – enabling reliable, flexible power using a range of fuels, including stranded or previously underutilised energy sources
    • Defense and security – supporting extended-duration operations and reducing logistical fuel requirements for advanced systems
    • Transport and heavy industry – improving efficiency and reducing operating costs for next-generation vehicles and equipment
    • Marine and offshore – extending operational range and enabling fuel flexibility in complex environments

The company has also begun engaging with U.S. government and defense stakeholders, including early-stage project activity with the U.S. Air Force.

British Science & Engineering married to USA Commercial & Speed delivers the best in the work.

Archie Watts-Farmer, CEO of Carnot commented:

“If you look back over history, there has been countless examples of when you match British Engineering with American commercialisation. That combination, becomes the best in the world in its class.

When Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin, it was a partnership with an American Pharmaceutical company & US Government lab which enabled mass production and dropped the price per dose from over $1,000, to less than $1. The P-51 Mustang became the defining long range fighter of the war, because it utilised the Rolls-Royce Merlin Engine and there are countless other examples across every aspect of Science.

It is this esteemed history we aim to replicate”
