Carnot has successfully tested its engine using biodiesel, marking the third fuel demonstrated on the same engine, with LPG testing soon to come. This is another important milestone in the development of our multi-fuel technology.

Our engineering team has been back in the test cell, this time operating the Carnot engine using biodiesel. Following successful testing with diesel and hydrogen, biodiesel becomes the third fuel to be successfully tested on our engine, with LPG soon to come.

Three fuels, same engine

Fuel flexibility is central to the technology we are developing at Carnot.

The latest testing demonstrates the ability of the Carnot engine to operate using different fuels without changing the fundamental engine architecture. This flexibility is particularly important as industries navigate the transition towards lower carbon energy, where fuel availability, alongside infrastructure and requirements can vary significantly between applications.

By developing an engine capable of operating across different fuels, Carnot is creating a decarbonised power solution which can adapt as the global energy landscape continues to evolve.

Why biodiesel?

Biodiesel provides a renewable alternative to conventional diesel and can help reduce reliance on fossil fuels while making use of existing liquid-fuel infrastructure.

Successfully operating the Carnot engine using biodiesel represents another important step in demonstrating how our technology can support customers transitioning towards alternative fuels without being dependant on a single fuel pathway.

Fuel flexibility in action

With diesel, hydrogen and now biodiesel successfully tested and soon LPG, our latest tests continue to demonstrate the fuel flexible capability of Carnot’s engine technology. As development continues, we will continue to test, validate and demonstrate the capabilities of the Carnot engine across different fuels.
