We are CARNOT. A UK engineering company building a next‑generation, high‑temperature, multi‑fuel engine platform to dramatically reduce fuel consumption, operating cost and CO2 emissions for heavy‑duty power. Our core insight is that conventional engines waste most combustion heat through cooling; by using advanced materials (technical ceramics, superalloys) and a radically different thermal architecture we eliminate large thermal losses and achieve step‑change brake thermal efficiency above 70%. That means roughly halving fuel use versus typical diesel engines and enabling immediate cost savings for operators.
Our engines are fuel‑agnostic: the same platform has run on diesel hydrogen, LPG, allowing customers to adopt lower‑carbon fuels as they become available. We focus on markets where batteries and fuel cells cannot practically scale — maritime auxiliary and propulsion, heavy‑duty road vehicles, industrial prime power and off‑grid generators.
We’ve validated prototypes at our Milton Keynes test site, running stable demonstrators since late 2024, and plan paid demonstrator deployments and the Victor 50 kW product in 2026, with low‑volume production in 2027. Our commercial model combines engine sales, power‑as‑a‑service and aftermarket support to capture hardware and lifecycle value. Backed by industry investors and strong pre‑orders, our near‑term priorities are demonstrator validation, emissions certification and scaling pilot production.
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering intern to join our core group of pioneers. The candidate will join the simulations team at CARNOT and will be working amongst the FEA, CFD, Design, and Test & Development. Flexible and remote working system. Be part of a fun, revolutionary, motivated team with the opportunity for professional development aligned with the trajectory of CARNOT’s growth.
The ideal candidate will have a distinguished academic record and relevant programming/ control systems experience at university level. Candidate will possess a solid foundation of knowledge in physics and applied mathematics and be able to work – as needed – from fundamental principles. Insatiable appetite to learn, willingness to support in all areas of the business.
